(EL-8895) HIGH QUALITY, VERY ORNATE GERMAN DRILLING

This is of normal drilling configuration with side by side shotgun bbls and rifle bbl underneath. The shotgun bbls are chambered in 2-1/2" 16 gauge, the rifle bbl is chambered in 44 Caliber by 2-1/4"; exact chambering is not known: possibly a 10.3 Baenziger or 10.3 Swiss? A 405 Winchester brass fits perfectly in both rim size and case diameter. These could be used if trimmed down to proper length. Also, 2 to 2-1/4" 410 shells fit very nicely. Some light to moderate pitting in the shotgun bbls, the rifle bbl is in VG cond with very light frosting and light roughness towards the chamber area; riflings are VG all the way to the chamber. The frame is pretty much full coverage engraving with some deep relief work being done. Absolutely gorgeous engraving which includes several animals: a rabbit, a stag, a hunting dog, deer along with a very flowing, pretty floral motif. Pretty much all the metal parts are engraved except the bbl which is marked 'A. Stricker Lichterkette'. In the stock is a very nice hinged compartment that opens up to hold 4 cartridges; this too, is completely engraved showing a hunter in a field. Wood is exceptional, very pretty and in wonderful cond. If you want a unique, handsome gun that is different from the norm, this fine Drilling would be it. ~~> VIEW PHOTO <~~ e

Early 2nd Model with thumbprint dustcover in the 1,2XX serial range. Equipped with a set trigger (which works) otherwise it's pretty much a standard feature gun with an octagon bbl, full length mag tube, crescent buttplate, correct ladder rear sight and Rocky Mountain front sight. Metal is in clean, smooth cond; has been cleaned a number of years ago and is mostly a grayish patina-some traces of blue in protected areas and also some plummish coloration. Bbl markings and other markings are VG. Buttstock displays some gouges and dings; this also most likely cleaned as it is a little shy especially at the upper tang. Forearm wood is in VG cond with a wear mark just in front of the frame; evidently carried quite a bit on a horse. We've seen this on occasion where they rest the rifle over the saddle pummel. Bore is in good cond, action is nice. Decent old 1876 with Letter. e

Wood is good and solid and looks quite good too. Correct markings including stock cartouche which is visible. Gun has been upgraded, most likely at the arsenal with the later Buffington sight and hooded front sight. Bore is somewhat rough but may clean up? Mechanics are tight and functional. Winchester 1873 Rifles

(EL-8776) SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 SHORT RIFLE IN 44 CALIBER

Factory 20" oct bbl, full magazine, rifle buttplate. Metal cond is mostly a grayish antique patina as is the bbl and mag tube. The wood has had a coat of very dark stain put on it many years ago and is in relatively good cond, sling swivel added to the buttstock which was done when the gun was very new-it's a very old sling swivel, notch filed on the bottom side of the bbl where some kind of a sling holder evidently had been, action is good, bore is fair to good. Factory Letter accompanies this gun with a very interesting item that says "Charged to G. Amsinck and Co. New York". A copy of a newspaper clipping from the New York Times dated 1917 talking about the Amsinck Co. is also included. Interesting rifle. e
