MHG658 CASED FRENCH PARLOR PISTOL

Item # MHG658

MHG658 CASED FRENCH PARLOR PISTOL On the bbl is "F. P. Caron, Arq. DE S.M. L' EMPEREUR A PARIS" . Caron was the gunmaker for Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte (President/Emperor Napoleon III). After two failed coups and years in exile, Napoleon returned to France and was elected as the first president of the Second French Republic. He served from 1848 to 1852 and seized power as Emperor and reigned until 1870. Based on this history, this pistol was produced between 1852 and 1870. This single shot is of the Flobert variety. A very simple mechanism as the hammer does all the functions. This is for the small 5.5mm rim fire. 9" oct bbl with engraving towards the chamber and also at the muzzle. Deep relief engraving on the stock towards the front and a typical French pistol grip with a very ornate pistol grip cap. Likewise the trigger guard is European style engraving also. Furniture is nickel plated with nearly all nickel remaining. Some light wear. The bbl has had a refinish years ago. Well done and not overbuffed. Case has the marking on the lid. Blue felt lining. Pistol fits perfectly and has probably been with it since it was built. This type of gun displays beautifully.

W761 HISTORIC HENRY PRESENTATION RIFLE

Item # W761

W761 HISTORIC HENRY PRESENTATION RIFLE Cal 44RF. Early production serial number 1111. Right side of the receiver is period engraved "Edgar Totten Wisconsin April 8th From Wm. A Warren" For some unknown reason the year has been deliberately taken out. Many privately purchased Henry's were carried by soldiers from Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky (which cost them $42. About 3 months soldiers pay) during the Civil War. I found an Edgar Totten who mustered out of the 173rd Regiment in October of 1865. There was a William Warren listed from Bellevue, Iowa. He was the local sheriff and the leader of a posse during the "Bellevue War". He went on to become an important quartermaster for the Union Army in the Civil War. Not sure of the connection between the two or the reason for the presentation. This rifle is in Good overall condition showing honest wear and color for it's age. The rear sight is missing the slider. This is a great piece of American History that anyone would be proud to own.

MR1193 PAIR OF ALEXANDER HENRY DOUBLE RIFLES

Item # MR1193

MR1193 PAIR OF ALEXANDER HENRY DOUBLE RIFLES Beautiful pair of double rifles manufactured by the famous Scottish gunsmith. Factory ledgers list these by serial number as being sold to Harry Panmure Gordon. Gordon was the founder of Panmure Gordon & Co. stockbroker and investment bank. Both guns have outstanding detailed English scroll work, Damascus bbls, banners and "Alex Henry, Edinburgh and London Maker to their Royal Highness' The Prince of Wales and Duke of Edinburgh" on top of the ribs. Forearms are checkered as is the pistol grip buttstocks. They have blade front sights, shadow line cheekpieces, red recoil pads. The grip caps have small trapdoors that hold replacement firing pins. Both have a good amount of original brown finish on bbls and case color on frames. One has a recoil pad that has hardened and deteriorated. The other has partially refinished buttstock and period replacement recoil pad. Mechanics are good on both rifles. There is a leather takedown case with the "Alexander Henry Edinburgh & London" label inside the cover but it is in very poor condition and missing all the straps. Also some papers about Mr. Gordon and a book "The Land of the Almighty Dollar" written by Gordon accompanies them. These are a beautiful pair of double rifles manufactured by a famous Scottish gunsmith and owned by a prominent well known individual.

MR599 MODEL 1819 HARPERS FERRY RIFLE It has a very interesting conversion to breech loading shotgun in 20 GA. Hammer must be pulled to cock position to draw the spring loaded firing pin back that has been neatly inserted into the breech chamber. By pulling back on the spur lever the receiver can be opened much wider of an elevation to fit in the cartridge. The underside of the breech hand ejector has been made neatly installed underneath the stock in front of the rear bbl bed to remove the spent shot shell. There is also a reinforced plate riveted over the top of the breech area to help contain excessive pressure. Very interesting alteration. Marked on the side of the receiver is "1832". S22F FACTORY ENGRAVED SAVAGE MODEL 95 RIFLE

Item # S22F

S22F FACTORY ENGRAVED SAVAGE MODEL 95 RIFLE Beyond a shadow of a doubt the finest 95 Savage ever produced. It was made for W.S. Stratton. Stratton was the owner of the Cripple Creek mines. He sold the mines in 1900 for $10 million which was a large amount of money at the time. He ordered a half dozen of these factory engraved Savages. This was his own personal gun. I purchased it years ago from Bob Funk of Wyoming and he had personally bought it from the Estate of Stratton. The gun has good provenance having been in my personal collection for a number of years and previously in Mr. Funk's collection. The early 95 Savages were made by Marlin before Art Savage got his factory going. The engraving on this was done by one of the Ulrichs. Features a dog and a deer in a motif on one side and scroll work on the other. The gun is in excl cond with about 75% vivid case colors with some areas turning silvery. The bbl retains 98% orig bright blue. Correct sights. Excl bore. Lyman flip up rear sight and folding tang sight. Fancy deluxe checkered walnut stocks retain most orig high gloss finish and have a few mars, dings and compression marks from storage but no cracks or splits. No signs of any refinish. Rifle butt retains a fair amount of case colors turning a silver color. Gun is excl+ all orig cond throughout and undoubtedly the finest 95 to have surfaced to date. There are only about 6 factory engraved 95 Savages that will letter. There is probably about another 6 or 8 out there that do not letter. I think I have seen them all and this is definitely the finest one. Great investment! This gun has a Factory Letter accompanying it that states the gun was ordered by Stratton and shipped directly to him in 1896.
