Merz Antique Firearms ~ Catalog of Old Guns and Related Items
The Model 1876 Winchester uses the same basic design as the Model 1873, adapted for larger cartridges. The majority of Winchester '76's are in a rifle configuration, but occasionally carbines and muskets are encountered. The 1876 carbine is unique in the Winchester lever action family, as it has a long forearm wood, which gives it the appearance of a short musket. When you see your first '76 carbine, it is easy to mistake it for a musket.

The balance is turning a pleasing antique color. Bbl is mostly brown with good markings and sharp edges. Half way down on the right hand side of the bbl and mag tube it looks like it had a spot of poor storage. Some light pin pricking in that area. Rocky Mountain blade style front sight and standard rear sight. Bore has some roughness and is in fair to good cond. Equipped with a dust cover. Wood fits good to both upper and lower tang. Forearm fits quite well. There has been a coat of some old varnish or lacquer put on it years ago. A decent looking 1876.
