W4036 FACTORY ENGRAVED HENRY RIFLE; 24 inch octagon barrel chambered in 44 RF caliber with a good bore that has some shine and visible rifling. Sights include a bit of what looks like ivory for a blade front and folding ladder rear. Barrel and magazine tube are mostly a light brown patina with good markings. Brass receiver has a beautiful patina and is factory engraved by Samuel J. Hoggson. Features a Doe jumping a fence on the left side with floral scrollwork on the both sides and the top. Engraving is mostly crisp. This was one of Hoggson’s favorite patterns to engrave. Hammer and lever are a gray patina. The walnut stock is in very good condition with some minor handling mars. Brass buttplate has a nice dark mustard patina. There are no sling provisions on this rifle. Nice functioning action. Made in March of 1863. A nice looking engraved Henry rifle.
