MR1701 BLUNT & SYMS HALFSTOCK SILVER-MOUNTED PERCUSSION SPORTING RIFLE; 34-3/4 inch octagon barrel chambered in about a 44 caliber with a very good bore that shows some light pitting but has strong rifling throughout. Barrel has a thinning plum/brown color and is unmarked. Sights include a thin silver blade front and sporting rear. Brass tipped hickory ramrod is present. The Blunt & Syms marked lock is a smooth dark gray patina and is lightly embellished as is the dolphin head hammer. Double set triggers. German silver hardware consists of duel ramrod thimbles and nosecap as well as the oval wedge escutcheons and triggerguard. The buttplate, toe plate and patchbox have extensive embellishments. The patchbox terminates into a buck’s head and the cover has a game scene. Left side of the buttstock inlay shows a buck jumping over a fence with a dog chasing close behind. Walnut stock is in very good condition with some light handling marks. This percussion rifle has some beautiful German silver furniture!
