W8749 FIRST MODEL WINCHESTER 1866 FLAT SIDE CARBINE; Barrel and mag tube show no signs of a barrel address. These were stamped very lightly and any wear at all took out the address. Correct sights. Original forearm shows mars and dings. The first models were flat and the forearm didn’t tuck into the frame and were subject to all sorts of abuse. Such is the case on this gun. Buttstock is generally very good with matching numbers as is the brass buttplate. The receiver shows some signs of wear as well. Several screws have been changed. Actions functions well. It has the modified flat side loading gate. They had about 3 different loading gates on the flat sides. Serial number is just short of 14k. Original saddle ring. Not a bad first model carbine.
ANTIQUE $ 15,500.
