MR1669 U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1879 TRAPDOOR RIFLE; 32-5/8 inch round barrel chambered in 45-70 caliber with a bright shiny bore. Blade front sight with hood added and stepped base rifle-style rear. Overall gun is an even brown patina with some pitting. Breech block marked 1873. Very good wood fits well with a chip near the muzzle. Correct buttplate, three swivels and cleaning rod. All markings are legible including the stock cartouche dated 1881. Excellent mechanics. In spite of some exposure to the elements it appears this good old gun has seen very little use. 155,XXX serial range.
