R2387 RARE AMERICAN BOY SCOUT MARKED REMINGTON NEW MODEL NO. 4 ROLLING BLOCK MILITARY MODEL RIFLE; Norm Flayderman very rarely used the word “rare” but that is how he describes this neat old rolling block. Made in 1913 only. Later ones were marked “Military Model” but first year guns like this example were marked “American Boy Scout” boldly on the frame. 28 inch round barrel in 22 Short only caliber. Interesting to see the Remington marking so far forward on the barrel, which makes sense for accommodating the musket style wood. Steel Remington RMC marked buttplate. Expected wear on buttplate but other markings are excellent. Sling swivels plus stacking swivel. Hole in underside of barrel to accommodate the bayonet lug, which is currently missing. Muzzle has a few file marks to clean up some damage. Metal is a grey/brown patina. Very good looking wood has a solidly repaired crack in stock. Barrel has been decommissioned by plugging both ends. We do not believe the plug goes all the way through. We believe this was done for safety when the gun was removed from service. Unique conversation piece!
