W3853 PRESENTATION MODEL 1892 SRC THAT WAS THE PROPERTY OF GENE AUTRY; I have had about 4 guns identical to this one in a Model 1892. They all had been given to VIPs. A couple were trick shooters that had them chambered in smooth bore. All were pistol gripped and nickel plated. On the side of the stock they all had an inlaid silver plaque with the “Winchester” trademark on them. This one is in excellent condition retaining all the nickel on the frame and buttplate. Wood is excellent as well. The barrel and mag retain about 95% blue with just a touch of brown. Original sights. Caliber 38-40. The gun comes complete with a saddle scabbard that is dated close to the time the gun was made. It’s a rather heavy duty scabbard. Also a box of cartridges that is about 3/4 full. The documentation is from Julie Struble who was the last owner of the rifle. She tells how her uncle, who was a professional rodeo performer, was given this rifle by Gene Autry for his services of acquiring cattle for Mr. Autry sometime in the 1930’s. Her uncle left the rifle to her brother who left it to her when he passed. Front of the folder says “Gene Autry The Singing Cowboy”. This is a clean untouched rifle in very nice condition.
