Description
M1145 EAGLE-HEAD MOUNTED CAVALRY STAFF OFFICER’S SWORD; Porter manufactured Pre-Civil War 1850s-1860s era sword with 31 1/2″ curved blade finished in blue and gold gilt. There are four open white etched scroll panels (2 per side) separating the six gold gilt etched areas. Blade is in good condition with a good amount of blue and gilt remaining. Front end of the blade shows some oxidation. The hilt is silver-plated with an open beak eagle-head pommel. The grip shows nice flutes along top and bottom surfaces with coarsely checkered panels on either side. The leather scabbard has a silver-plated throat and center band and is heavily damaged. The tip is missing. Silver finishes have tarnished to a pleasing aged patina.
