MR1463 VERY FINE PEABODY MARTINI CREEDMORE ENGRAVED RIFLE; This gun is beautifully engraved with an exceptional scene on both sides. All of these Peabodys were engraved by a guy named Wolcott. He was an exceptional engraver whose work was compared to Ulrich. This one is signed as all of them are. Features a bull and cow elk and forest scene that is similar to the Monarch of the Glenn scene. Delicate scrolls as well. The other side has a patriotic looking eagle game scene surrounded by scrolls. On top of the receiver is marked “Creedmore”. Caliber 44-100. Wood shows some wear with light mars and dings. Correct steel shotgun style buttplate. Folding tang sight. 26 inch half round barrel retains about 60% blue with sharp corners and good markings. Very good bore. Receiver is a smokey case color with more vivid color in protected areas. No pits. Just a neat gun. Less than 500 of these were made and some were quite plainly engraved but this one is elaborately done. It is quite a show piece.
ANTIQUE $ 13,750.
